Elon Musk announced today plans for the pilot of Tesla's battery swap option. According to Musk Starting "next week, we will pilot a pack swap program with invited Model S owners. They will be given the opportunity to swap their car's battery at a custom-built facility located across the street from the Tesla Superchargers at Harris Ranch, CA. This pilot program is intended to test technology and assess demand."
Unfortunately the promise of a 90 second swap has been dashed by recently added safety measures. "More time is needed to remove the titanium and hardened aluminum ballistic plates that now shield the battery pack, so the swap process takes approximately three minutes," Musk points out.
Musk explains that refinement of the swapping techniques should regain some of the time lost by the burdensome shields.

Three minutes? That's way too long to wait for anything.

I'm sorry, but this is just false advertising, even with the explanation below. I guess they're just trying to be cute, but there's no charging going on in those 90 seconds. If you put new batteries in your flashlight, do you say that now you've got a full charge?
It's a fantastic technical achievement, but let's be honest about it.

I'm curious as to how they'll address the objection of "I don't want somebody else's old battery in my new $100k car".
Or am I overthinking that part?

Well, your battery is supposed to remain where it was swapped and you either drive back through or have it shipped to your nearest Tesla showroom/service center.

Perhaps. They state that you get "a fully charged battery," so I'd say it's not false advertising. I'm not defending them, mind you. I have a gas drinking BMW :-)

Huh, interesting. I would have thought they'd try to push it the other way - just like in a flashlight, batteries are consumable and replaceable.

There is a huge flaw with this plan, they are saying that there will be a few locations set up where you can swap a battery. However, because demand for this is mostly from people living in cities, there wouldn't be anywhere to get a new battery when you are going somewhere far away, when you would actually need the extra range to get to you destination in under a day or two.

I would still buy the car, if I had the money. They could name this battery swap "Pony Express", since you get a "fresh horse" on every stop...

Time will tell. I suppose that's why they're beta testing this in the SF area.
